Puppy Mill of death.

My daughter bought a puppy from a horrible puppy mill, WALABS, 3363C Centralia Alpha Rd
Onalaska, WA 98570

This breeder sold my adult daughter a puppy which according to his records was underweight and failing to thrive.

The puppy died 6 days after getting home - after a horrible day of being at the Vet and my daughter spending $600 or more in vet bills.

At the end of the day Molly had to drive an hour and a half to the state vet lab in Corvalis, with her beloved dead puppy in the back seat, in order to get it tested for rabies.

This happened a week before Molly graduated from College.

But then it gets worse, this horrible breeder has now chased my daughter and her reviews off of the internet, even getting Yelp to 'filter' her review.

Here is her Yelp review, which Yelp chose to 'filter.'

Here is the Yelp page for the breeder.

This is a Labrador dog breeder who I would discourage anyone from buying a puppy from. The puppy we got there was only 5 lbs at 9 weeks of age, and died one week after I picked her up. The breeder, Jim Young, was hostile and unsympathetic of the situation even after it was apparent from talking to the vets that tried to save my puppy's life that the cause of her death was likely related to his breeding program. He did not even offer an apology, yet alone refund any of my money or offer me another puppy. Also, after posting on the forum that my puppy was sick, and that other new owners should watch out just in case, he deleted my comment, and blocked me from the forum. I received emails from other people who had gotten his puppies only to have to deal with incredibly sick dogs. The breeder is a nasty mean person to deal with, and should not be around animals yet alone breeding them. He is only one step removed from a puppy mill.

  1. Thank you for posting this. Jim Young is a horrible, horrible man. He has been reported to various animal control agencies, PETA, the AKC, WA state attorney general's office and the Humane Society. The more info out there and the more people willing to voice his abusive and neglectful breeding practices, means the closer we are to putting him out of business and hopefully in jail.

  2. I am really sorry to hear of your sad and terrifying experience. I am surprised that you took a puppy home that "was only 5lbs at 9 weeks of age" and that your daughter -unless she was already skilled in caring for a puppy that already had issues- would buy a puppy "This breeder sold my adult daughter a puppy which according to his records was underweight and failing to thrive".
Seems to me that she knew what she was buying before she bought it. A young animal that needed plenty of care, medical attention and still may not make it.

Others we have spoken with and ourselves have had only the best experience with Jim.

AKC nor the WA state attorney general's office nor the Humane Society have not taken any negative action toward Jim, so whatever issues there might have been are resolved.

The person I read about in your posting is not the same man that we have dealt with in the last two years.
Again, I am so sorry to hear of your terrible experience, it is so tragic.

  3. Oh its the same young jim young. There are files on jim young at the humane society of OR. and WA. My six year old lab from jim young has had surgeries to correct luxating patellas, torn ccl's and now has been diagnosed with nasal cancer. I could go on about how sick his litters were and how so many of his puppies died but more importantly the heartache I have heard from so many families that bankrupted themselves financially and emotionally over their beloved dogs with dysplasia, auto immune diseases and heart condition. So many diedbefore the age of five....I guess I am lucky....my boy might make it to seven. I truly hate jim young, he is a despicable piece of crap.

  4. Hi my name is Lori and I bought one of jim young's "retired breeding dogs"... a chocolate lab in Sept of 2010. I drove out to his home and to a meet a very ill dog that I could not just leave. She was starved. Jim told me that she had "anxiety" and killed her puppies so he was "retiring" her. I gave him a $100 and later spent $1000's to save her life. She was infested with hook worms and weighed 57lbs. The vet said that she looked emaciated. She had bite marks all over her body. She had a broken tooth. She had fleas. She had ear infectations. Her fur was orange and dry. I could go on and on. Now, after years she is happy and somewhat healthy dog. Lori

I have tried to do what I can to get someone involved to permently shut him down and even with the change in laws, he is still up and running. People should never purchase a puppy from this man!!

  5. It is a waste of time to report him to HSUS or PETA. They have other agendas and really don't give a sh*t about this. The HSUS is a money profiting organization, only 1% of its budget goes to dogs. PETA is a radical organization, that in my opinion want to see dogs and cats extinct, that is why they kill almost everyone of them they can get their hands on. AKC is a registration service. If you really want to shut this guy down -- contact the media (all of them), check the local zoning laws (he could be in violation of having a kennel or breeding on his property), call animal control. Review your state's laws. Do they have regular vet care? Are all dogs 4 months and older property vaccinated for Rabies? If not, animal control might be able to do something.

  9. THANK YOU ALL!!

EVEN NOW IN 2016,THE TIME YOU TOOK TO POST ABOUT WALABS IS PAYING OFF!
We're about to get a dog, we're very interested in a mini lab and had been looking at Walabs initially (still in the early stages of looking).
Your comments helped us avoid him. I actually called and was talking to Jim on the phone as puppies were being born - I wonder now what lives they'll have.
    Thanks again!

  11. My teenage daughters decided to buy us a yellow lab puppy from walabs for my birthday 6 days ago, assuming we were all on board and ready since our other beloved yellow lab had passed away. Imagine our surprise when they spent the money they were saving for a car to buy us a puppy that we were not prepared for. After speaking to Jim the same day they brought her home, he was not willing to offer a refund and suggested our kids "learn a lesson". He was very rude and clearly was just in this to make money, without any regard to his puppy and his clients. Their website states they will gladly take a puppy back.. beware it does not state anything about a refund, nor are they willing to give you a dime. We were so put off by his irresponsible behaviour, that we decided there was NO way she was going back there and we would rehome her ourselves. The pup weighed 4.8lbs at 9 weeks old when we got her. Clearly WAY underweight for a lab at 9 weeks. Labs should weigh 13 to 20lbs by then. By day 3 we took her to our vet and she had gained a whole pound. The vet also said Jim gave her her first shots too young for her body to even absorb the effects, at 5 weeks. Thus our trip to the vet was considered her first round of shots at 9 1/2 weeks. The breeder also bathed her in Pantene Shampoo before sending her off. Thus irritating her sensitive skin to the point of constant scratching. The vet is concerned that she may have allergies. She is the sweetest dog and has been quick to kennel train and potty train, but we are rehoming her because we do not have the time that a new puppy deserves. Walabs is a puppy mill. Jim stated that he has 31 puppies currently too young for immunities. That's a lot of litters all at once! Obviously too many to care for well. The only paperwork they send home with you is their bogus guarantee, a microchip registry form, and AKC registration form. We received no information on their parents or their pedigree. On the phone Jim offered no information in regards to their blood lines and stated you have to get them registered to get that information. What reputable breeder doesn't offer that information? This man is a disgrace.

  13. I just rescued a 2 year old lab that was bred by Walabs. The girl that bought him from them left him kenneled for the better part of his life. My friend, a relative of the girl that bought him, begged me to take him. I live on 40 acres and do not kennel my dogs. They are part of the family. Since she had payed $800.00 for him as a pup, I expected so see a very nice example of a yellow lab. He is an example of puppy mill quality. Although a very sweet boy, even after spending the first two years of his life in jail, he looks to be more of a lab/retriever mix. His dew claws were not even removed! His eyes are pale brown and his head and muzzle to narrow for a lab. A white spot on his chest makes me more suspicious of the breeding. Doesn't matter to me other than the breeders are charging ridiculous prices for below mediocre dogs. Irresponsible breeders make me sick.

  14. I toured his breeding facility before they moved to Onalaska from Ridgefield, WA. He had one of the cleanest and nicest set ups I have ever seen. All dogs on his property were healthy, well cared for and happy. Even though I wasn't involved with this scenario in any way, I have to agree with a previous comment above. If a person was not aware or chose to buy a very small puppy at 9 weeks old, maybe they should have done their homework before picking out a puppy. Failure to thrive is fairly common with a high mortality rate. Sounds like the signs were there but the puppy was chosen anyway.

  16. I wish we had researched this guy before giving him a deposit. He separates the puppies from the mothers at 3 weeks and every other breeder and veteranarian I've spoke to about this says a minimum of 4 weeks preferably 6. This guy wouldn't refund us our $250 and says the dog we picked isn't up for adoption for us now and the local authorities can't do anything because it's a civil suit. He knows we won't take him to court because the cost is far more than what he's stolen from us. This guy is a thief, liar, and a con. He needs to be shut down. After reading all the complaints on line supports the 4-6 week separation from the mother. This guy is selling people labs with health problems. I hope someone in authority sees our messages and does something about these crooks.
